about us:
Two Chefs in Vail, CO
Shawn Smith and I met in spring of 1998, when he hired me to work with him in the pastry department at the Lodge at Vail. We were one of those “kitchen relationships” that actually ended up working out! A few year’s later, I became a “Smith”, he started his own pastry/wedding cake/ice cream business called Mountain Flour, I moved on to eventually become the director of operations at the iconic Larkspur Restaurant and then finally went out on my own to create FOODsmith in 2014. Fast forward another 10 years, and here we are, still cooking, still living in this beautiful valley (married, four kids, all of the chaos that comes with it!), and still enjoying bringing hospitality to others and all of the personal rewards that come with doing just that! We take pride in transforming meals into unforgettable events. Through our attention to detail and passion for exquisite ingredients, we ensure that each meal not only meets but exceeds your expectations.
Our expertise and creativity as professional chefs provide rare, one of a kind, exclusive experiences and enhance special occasions while also providing an opportunity to learn about cooking techniques and ingredients. Our passion for our craft This is what makes for a truly memorable and remarkable event.
What we hope to bring to you in your home, or to students in our classes, or customers in our store is our passion for our craft.

-smith
combining form suffix: –smith
denoting a person skilled in creating something special with a specified material
Our “specified material” is FOOD

craft/ kraft/ noun
an activity involving skill in making things by hand
- May you also enjoy what we have found to be some of our "favorite things": our favorite recipe for granola, or our favorite sorbet featuring hand picked rhubarb from Minturn, or our favorite paring knife, or method for chopping shallots and making vinaigrette, or paring of sake with sushi (I actually prefer a grower's champagne!), and may you most importantly enjoy one another's company!
